This lot features a Minnesota Gophers 1979 NCAA National Championship hockey ring given to player Peter Hayek. The ring is 10k gold and has "HAYEK" on one flank and "1979 GOPHERS" on the other. The top of the ring reads "NATIONAL CHAMPS NCAA". The Gophers defeated North Dakota 4-3 to win the 1979 National Championship at Olympia Stadium in Detroit, Michigan. Several members of this Championship team would go on to join the 1980 Team USA Gold Medal winning hockey team including Herb Brooks as the head coach, Bill Baker, Neal Broten, Steve Christoff, Steve Janaszak, Rob McClanahan, Mike Ramsey, Eric Strobel and Phil Verchota.
