This amazing offering features an original New York Jets helmet that can be pinpointed to the 1968 Super Bowl season exhibiting excellent overall use. It is an original RK2 1.5" extra large size 7 5/8 husky model. The shell is made of the original Riddell "natural" impregnated color (no paint) except for the internal gray. The 3/4" green stripes are original and applied at the factory in the late 1960's with the Riddell heat stamp burned in. The "JETS" decals on each side are both original and in the correct position showing proper age dated from the era. Shrinkage of the vinyl will cause a light glue residue around the decal. All internal components of the helmet, suspension, rivets, bumpers and snubber are all original which is extremely rare. The face mask dates this helmet specifically to the 1968 season. This particular style mask was made by Schutt in 1968 before a redesign the following year. The facemask clips have been replaced because the original ones became too brittle which is the norm for these vintage helmets. This helmet has never been reconditioned and has Paul Rochester's #72 inside. Rochester was a defensive tackle for the Super Bowl III Champions and would play one more season before retiring after the 1969 season. Spectacular helmet from one of the most memorable seasons ever as the Jets would stun the Colts to win Super Bowl III on the heels of Joe Namath's famous guarantee of victory. Accompanied by a lengthy detailed Letter of Authenticity from Helmet Hut.
