Old Street London Transport Station Sign

This lot features an Old Street London Transport station sign measuring approximately 9x40. This type of London Transport station sign was mounted as a frieze along the walls of London underground stations. They were interspersed with LT tube line roundels. Each station would have lots of these along the whole length of a platform. LT sold thousands of signs in three big auctions in the late 1990s after undergoing a massive redesigning program. The signs appear regularly in Railwayana auctions, on eBay, and in antique shops up and down the country. Nice memento and popular with collectors. Bruton was a sign manufacturer in Palmers Green, North London.
