This lot features an authentic set of Civil War artillery goggles recovered from Antietam. The goggles remain in nice condition and are accompanied by the original tin for storage. These goggles were used during the civil war as eye protection from the flash of cannons and gun powder residue. The Battle of Antietam, also known as the Battle of Sharpsburg, particularly in the Southern United States, was a battle of the American Civil War, fought on September 17, 1862, between Confederate General Robert E. Lee's Army of Northern Virginia and Union General George B. McClellan's Army of the Potomac, near Sharpsburg, Maryland and Antietam Creek. These particular goggles were originally recovered from the Old Antietam Museum in the 1960's and auctioned off. Accompanied by a case for display purposes. Tremendous piece of American History.
