This lot features Bert Blyleven’s hand written game used stat baseball from April 6, 1984. This is the actual baseball that struck out Onix Concepcion on a 3-2 changeup for Blyleven’s 2,500th career strikeout. This was the first batter he faced on Opening Day in 1984 which also happened to be his 33rd birthday. Later in the game Blyleven passed fellow Hall of Fame pitcher Christy Mathewson's strikeout record of 2,505 as he struck out 8 during the game.

Blyleven collected these baseballs after the game and personally hand wrote everything pictured on the baseball at that specific time. If he pitched a complete game, these are the actual final out baseballs. All other baseballs are game used from the stated game.

** This lot originates from the personal collection of Bert Blyleven and will be accompanied by a signed letter of provenance from Bert Blyleven. Please know that a portion of your bid will go towards charities supported by Bert and his wife Gayle **
