This lot features a Yogi Berra New York Yankees home pinstripe jersey c. 1977-78 with moderate overall wear. The jersey has the popular New York Yankees "NY" sewn on front as well as Yogi's retired #8 on back. The blue pinstripes are spaced about 1.25 inches apart and the "NY" measures approximately 5 5/8 which are known traits for Yankees professional model jerseys. Upon close inspection, the jersey has the "blue jagged" pinstripes as well, another trait you look for with professional model Yankees jerseys. The jersey has the Wilson manufacturers tag and year "77" swatch sewn into the lower left front tail as well as "BERRA" stitched into the collar. This style of Wilson tagging with thicker Wilson script first began in 1978 as did the practice of sewing only the player name into the collar rather than player name, year and set as with previous 5 years. The jersey could have been made for Berra either for use during his coaching career with the Yankees or even for Old Timers Game appearances as the #8 on back and "NY" on front are all original. Nice piece of Yankee history that would look appealing hanging on any home or office wall as Yogi was one of the all time Yankee greats winning 3 AL MVP Awards in the 1950's. Accompanied by a Letter of Provenance from the original as to how it was acquired from Yogi Berra back in 1978.
