This stunning official American League B. Bancroft "Ban" Johnson Reach baseball has been signed by 26 members of the 1924 New York Yankees. Signatures include: Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig (rookie year), Earle Combs, Herb Pennock, Bob Meusel, Wally Pipp, Everett Scott, Aaron Ward, Bullet Joe Bush, Sad Sam Jones and Walter Beall among others. Truly a special baseball as this was the year a young 23 year old named Lou Gehrig took over for veteran Wally Pipp for the last 10 games of the 1924 season. Gehrig would bat .500 for the last 10 games and Wally Pipp would never set foot at first base again. It is extremely difficult to locate a 1924 Yankees ball and even more unusual to find both Gehrig and Pipp on the ball given that the Iron Horse only played 10 games that year and wasn't even considered a key member of the team yet. The ball shows its 90 year old age as it dark brown and the signature difficult to read. The full JSA LOA shows an image of the ball under special lighting to help make out the signatures. Very difficult and highly coveted Yankees ball nonetheless and must own baseball for both Yankee and baseball collectors.
