This lot features a rare c. 1909 Cy Young autographed official American League Ban Johnson (1901-1927) baseball. Young signed the side panel in steel tip fountain pen. The signature looks as if it has been partially enhanced but remains a nice vintage, authentic Cy Young signature. John "Dots" Miller has signed the sweet spot of the ball. Miller played first base and second base in Major League Baseball from 1909 to 1921. He would play for the Pittsburgh Pirates, Philadelphia Phillies, and St. Louis Cardinals. Cy Young holds the most unbreakable record in professional sports, 511 career victories. It's unlikely that any current or future pitcher will ever even approach the elite 300 win plateau due to the fact they only pitch every 5 games and the fact that current starters are on 100 pitch counts leading to less decisions. During Cy's 22-season baseball career (1890–1911), he pitched for five different teams. Young established numerous pitching records, some of which have stood for over a century. Young compiled 511 wins, which is most in Major League history and 94 ahead of Walter Johnson, second on the list. Young was elected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1937. Accompanied by a full JSA/James Spence Authentication Letter of Authenticity.
